SUCCA Africa joins Race to Zero as the first African Accelerator

Today at the the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD), SUCCA Africa announced that they have taken a significant step towards supporting West African businesses in their transition to net zero emissions by joining the Race to Zero campaign as an Accelerator.
Race to Zero is the world’s largest campaign rallying non-State actors to take immediate action to contributing to halving global emissions by 2030 with over 13,500 members around the globe.
“We are excited to welcome SUCCA Africa as our first African ‘Race to Zero’ accelerator,” says H.E. Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP28. “Recognizing the indispensable role of business and the private sector in our fight against climate change, we are eager to mobilize the private sector not only in West Africa but also in surrounding regions. Our goal is a just and equitable transition to net zero emissions. With the vast opportunities and strengths in Africa, a strategic vision tailored to its unique needs can drive a transformative economy.”
SUCCA Africa will be joining 30+ other Accelerators to raise awareness of the Race to Zero while building the capacity of non-State actors to deliver ambitious net zero action.

SUCCA Africa announced their role in the campaign at the UNECA Tenth Session of the ARFSD during a side event that underscored the critical role of the private sector and non-State actors in bridging the gap between development and climate policies by showcasing the scope and impact of businesses in delivering the 2030 and 2063 agendas while ensuring a just transition. Speakers included High-Level Climate Champion of COP29, HE Nigar Arpadarai, with UN representatives and private sector including Jean-Paul Adam Director, Policy, Monitoring and Advocacy, Office of the Special Adviser on Africa, United Nations Secretariat, Jack Kimani, CEO CAP-A, Ghada Hammouda, Group Chief Sustainability & Marketing Officer, Qalaa Holding, Prince Osisiadan, CEO SUCCA Africa Ltd, and Wincate Muthini, Senior Programs Manager, Pan African Chamber of commerce (PACCI).
