MONDAY 26 JUNE

EVENT: The Race is On: Net Zero & Nature Positive for Climate Action

TIME: 11:00 – 17:00 BST

VENUE: The Conduit, 6 Langley Street, WC2H 9JA, UK

The Climate Champions Team, Race to Zero and Partners are delighted to invite you to The Race is On: Net Zero & Nature Positive for Climate Action at The Conduit, London on Monday 26 June, as part of London Climate Action Week.

2023 is a decisive year in a decisive decade to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises together. The 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change is now complemented and strengthened by the 2022 Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework(GBF), and provides a roadmap for governments and non-state actors to address biodiversity loss. We know that there is no net zero without protecting nature, and that by 2030 we must halve global emissions, reverse biodiversity loss and enhance climate resilience.

Yet we’ve never been better equipped to solve this challenge. This is our opportunity to change the trajectory we’re currently on to an unliveable future. This year the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions are accelerating action towards the achievement of net zero emissions and nature positive economy, together, which this event will bring to life over two sessions.

PROGRAMME & REGISTRATION:

11:00 – 13:00: Net Zero for Climate Action (morning session)

Join us in the morning for a session led by Race to Zero, highlighting the importance of accelerating transparency and accountability and the urgent need to speed up standardisation and net zero aligned policy and regulation.

TUESDAY 27 JUNE

EVENT: Catalyzing Action for Climate Adaptation & Resilience – Making the Business Case

TIME: 09:30 – 12:00

VENUE: PwC, 7 More Place, London

No matter how emission reduction trends evolve over the next few years, the world has already warmed by an average of 1.2 degrees C above pre-industrial levels. Climate change is here. The private sector is not prioritising resilience building or adapting at the speed and scale necessary to mitigate or avoid catastrophic outcomes. While 32% (US$15.5 billion) of all private finance mobilised by official development interventions between 2018 and 2020 targeted climate-related issues, only 4% ($1.8 billion) was earmarked exclusively for adaptation.

This must change. How can businesses create a climate strategy that addresses both mitigation and adaptation, and considers both the risks and opportunities therein, relevant to their operations and activities?

This roundtable will convene leading businesses to explore the case for climate adaptation and resilience; adapting corporate strategy to climate risk and impacts and the key steps to embed resilience into operations, activities, and outcomes. This discussion is being held within the context of the Sharm el-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda adopted by the COP presidency as a framework for action, and builds upon the World Economic Forum’s January 2023 White Paper ‘Accelerating Business Action for Climate Change Adaptation’ and C2ES’s 2022 Emerging Blueprint for Companies to Advance Local Climate Resilience.

This event is invitation only. For more information please contact Rebecca Kershaw at rebeccakershaw@climatechampions.team.

EVENT: Businesses leading on the Race to Zero

TIME: 14:15 – 15:15

VENUE: Reset Connect, CAFA Industry Systems Hub

This event will showcase the progress of Race to Zero and its 8,000 businesses, while also sharing with businesses how they can go further and faster in their journey to net zero. Join Race to Zero’s Acceleration Manager (Jane Eisendhardt), Business Partners (SME Climate Hub, Pledge to Net Zero and Planet Mark) and business members of the Race to Zero to be inspired by their journey to halving emissions by 2030.

EVENT: Cities Dialogue: Adapting Urban Infrastructure to a Changing Climate

TIME:  18:00 – 19:15 BST

VENUE: Arup 8 Fitzroy Street London W1T 4BJ

The International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI), in partnership with  Cities Race to Resilience is delighted to invite you to this in-person London Climate Action Week event, which includes a dialogue among city leaders on adapting urban infrastructure to a changing climate, followed by a drinks reception.

There is much opportunity for engagement between the Cities Race to Resilience campaign (led by ICLEI) and the Infrastructure Race to Resilience campaign (led by ICSI). Infrastructure is critical to daily urban life, and similarly, city policy and governance are integral in determining how infrastructure is built, used, and maintained in the urban environment.

This event is a chance to bring together city officials to discuss urban infrastructure issues, discover synergies, exchange knowledge and deepen collaboration.

We will hear from city officials including Kristen Guida, City Resilience Manager at Greater London Authority.

WEDNESDAY 28 JUNE

EVENT: Road to Regulation at the Climate Innovation Forum

TIME: 16:30 – 18:00

VENUE: Climate Innovation Forum, The Guildhall, 71 Basinghall St, London EC2V 7HH

This in-person gathering of members of Race to Zero’s Net Zero Policy & Regulation community will discuss how to continue mobilising net zero aligned standards, policy, laws and regulations. The 90-minute workshop will share core projects across leading net zero organisations, and will set people up to discuss overcoming blockers on net zero progress (e.g., competition law) and opportunities (e.g., climate procurement regulation and mandatory transition plans). How can we learn from best practice, and share it around the world?

This workshop is invitation only. For more information please contact Tessa Vincent at tessavincent@climatechampions.team.
